Fruit for Thought: Journeys Between New Orleans and Honduras is a three-part documentary series exploring the connections between Honduras and New Orleans through three key food commodities: bananas, palm oil, and coffee. We seek to understand questions like: How do the power dynamics embedded within regional food systems impact local governance, cultural heritage, national sovereignty, and indigeneity? How do these food industries influence cultural exchange between the two regions? How do food commodities impact immigration and how have those processes shifted over the past century? These questions are rooted in local contexts and place-based histories, yet they resonate globally, offering critical insights into some of the most pressing historical and contemporary issues of the twenty-first century. The unexpected histories of these everyday foods connect people to powerful narratives, offering a lens into untold stories of history and global exchange.
